How long have you volunteered with MCVLP?

I have volunteered for the MCVLP since 2010.

Why do you volunteer?

I volunteer because helping others is my reason for becoming a lawyer. A relatively brief and concentrated effort on my part can make a long-lasting difference in my client’s life.

What is your most memorable volunteering experience?

I filed a petition for relief under the Violence Against Women Act (“VAWA”) for one of my clients. The VAWA provides immigration status to spouses who have been abused by their partners, who are citizens of the United States. VAWA relief also extends to the children of the partnership. Through the process of obtaining work authorization and VAWA relief for my client, I observed my client become independent, confident, and self-assured.

What advice can you give attorneys thinking about volunteering with the MCVLP?

Do not hesitate to volunteer. The MCVLP, fellow members of the Bar, and our judges greatly appreciate volunteer work and will assist you by answering any questions you may need answered. The MCVLP is an awesome community effort and you will not regret your participation.
