Amy Creech

How long have you volunteered?

Since 2009.

Why do you volunteer?

I think it is important to give back to the community – both personally and professionally. I love family law and am blessed to be able to practice in that area. Volunteering with the MCVLP allows me the opportunity to do what I love and give back at the same time.

What is your most memorable volunteering experience?

There have been many, but there is one client I think of often. Life had given her lots of hard knocks and no advantages. She was a single mom who bagged groceries for a living. Yet, never have I met a person more full of joy and grace. To quote my mom, she was “blooming where she was planted.” Her positive outlook, her thankfulness in the midst of adversity, humbled me. It still does.

What advice can you give attorneys thinking about volunteering with the MCVLP?

What you receive from these clients will be exponentially greater than what you give. Listen to their stories; really hear what they are saying. Look, as best you can, from their vantage points. Care.
